Note: This note is not in the voiceover. Spencer is a Middle in our System (between 8-12 years old). We’ve written out the text for what Spencer says in the voice over, You may find it helpful in understanding them better if you read along. We’ve put some explanations in brackets for context. There is also a not at the end for this text.
Thanks for coming to our Substack - Unpretending Spontaneous
Hi, this is Spencer.
And it is not “Spencer Reads”, it is #7 -To The Moon And Back. And, this episode is me talking about the Farm we went to, so that’s what I’m going to talk about today. And it’s Unpretending’s Substack.
So, (Multimes) took us to a Petting Zoo, it’s a farm and I forget the name of it, but you go in there and we wanted to go feed the goats first, the baby goats. And you go and for one dollar you get a little bottle of milk, with some..., a little bottle of milk for the goats.
Anyway and then you go in and you’re not allowed to pick up the goats but that’s okay because the goats, if you sit down on a stump they’ll sit all over your legs. And I put the rest of the milk (in other bottles) in my handbag so I could do one bottle of milk at a time, and they would put their head in the handbag looking for it. And they are so cool, they would get the milk and were sucking it and they were drinking it. And they would put their heads right, right up and they were just really, really fun and really, really sweet. And I had like one, two, three, four little baby goats and it was just so much fun.
And then when the milk ran out, they been (were) trying to eat my hair, and they been (were) trying to eat my hat. It was not my hat, it was Max’s hat. Max’s hat went on a journey, did you know that?
Did you know that we left our hat, our Max’s hat at LaFamiliar Mexican? And we had that (Mexican Food) on a day at... at a place. And we put our hat on (took it off) because you can’t wear hats at a restaurant because that’ll be rude. So they took off their hat and they put it on the seat, and when we left we forgot to look at the seat to see if there was anything there. And so they left their hat there. And they didn’t even realise it for a couple of days, and then they went (said), “Where is our hat? Where is Max’s hat? And we couldn’t find it.
So we thought back, “Okay when was the last time... (we saw it) ...and it was me, I knew, I knew they left it there. So I told them, I said, “Well you left it on the seat at LaFamiliar Mexican”. And so they rang the Mexican place (the restaurant) and they said, “Yeah, your hat’s here”. But do you know what? By that stage it would have been (taken) like three hours to get there and three hours to get back again. That’s six hours.
So we said, “Well maybe you could send it to us? By post? And we’ll make it worth your while. And they did. They sent it. It took them (our System) a day or so to get to talking to the dude, the owner man. And we talked to him and, and we said, Thank you so much. It’s a really special hat”. And so, Max’s hat came back in the mail. That was so good, we were so lucky that it came back in the mail. So now we’ve got Max’s hat back again, so that’s why I could wear Max’s hat when we went to the farm.
There we are, and then after we saw the goats we kept walking around. There were lots of school visits there, they were like lots of kids who were doing schools. And they didn’t mind that I was big and in a grown up body. But I couldn’t go on the little..., they had little tractors, little green ones with pedals, and the Ones on the Inside here they said to me... well I can’t go on those because, “Remember you’re in a big persons body even though you’re not very big”. And they said, “You can’t go on them”. And that made me a little bit sad for a bit but I didn’t get sad for too long.
And then we went..., there were these old places you can go. There was an old hair cut place that they call a Barber, and do you know what? They had a backwards clock. The clock when you look at it on the wall was backwards, but then when you look at it in the mirror that was the normal way around. So I took a photo of the backwards clock and I took a photo of it through the mirror so I could see, because that’s really cool. Because then they can be cutting a persons hair and look in the mirror and they know what time it is. And then after that we went to the next shop, they didn’t really have anyone getting their hair cut because that was in the olden days, that was just a museum type thing.
We went to the next shop and it was a Bank. And you were allowed to make your own money, and so I made ten dollars and I was going to see if I could take it next door to the Ice Cream store and say, “Here, I made bank (money) in this bank next door just now and can I give it to you and get an ice cream?” But I was only pretending, I wasn’t really going to do that. But that was really cool (that) we did that.
And then we went, we were seeing some, like, chickens and stuff and I saw my first ever Turkey! Like an American turkey, like a gobble-gobble-gobble turkey. And guess what? It had a really ugly face. Like it’s face is really like droopy and you could almost think it was a bit like a monster face or an alien face. It was like weird looking.
But it did a really cool dance, I think it was my hat (Spencer thought the turkey thought the hat was another turkey). I think he liked Max’s hat because it did this really cool dance, a fluffy turning around ahhh dance that..., we got these doves at home, at like, in Australia their called Top Notch Pigeons, and when the Daddy Pigeon wants to marry the Mummy Pigeon he does this really cool dance and so this turkey here, I reckon he was doing that really cool dance. But he had really amazing big giant feathers and..., which look like a hat, it was really really cool. That was cool.
Then we saw a Pig. It was a big black hairy pig, and I reckon there was babies in that pigs tummy, it was just lying there.
And then we saw like a pony and we saw these horses because we had a Hay Ride! I’ve never had a Hay Ride before, I’ve always wanted a Hay Ride and it was really cool there was..., like you sit on the side of the hay..., the wagon. And you sit on the side of it and I think it’s got a spot for your feet, I think so. And they had these really cool big horses, and you go around and you..., you’re sitting on hay and it smells really good and fresh. And the driver was a bit of a scary man so I didn’t look at him even though he was saying nice things, but sometimes you just know when there are scary people around so you just don’t look at them, they won’t even know you’re there.
So that (the Hay Ride) was really cool.
And on the way back, right at the end (of the Hay Ride), the horses went gallop, gallop, gallop, gallop. And they were really nice horses and I got to pat (pet) them, and got to talk to them and they were really happy that I talked to them I think.
Then we saw the Mummy goats, there might have been Daddy goats too, they were really big. And you could feed them, you could put a quarter..., I know what a quarter is, it’s the big really silver one. And so you could put a quarter in (a gum ball type machine), then you put your hand under, and out comes little pebbles of food to give to the goats. And I gave one to the pony, actually I gave a couple to the pony. And you never know, guess what? I bought a couple home in my pocket to give to the squirrels, but I haven’t given them to the squirrels yet because we’re babysitting a puppy dog at the moment and the squirrels aren’t coming into the yard anymore but I’m going to go and give these food to the squirrels.
And what else did we do? We saw a covered wagon, like from the olden days and they’re really skinny, their much skinnier than I thought, I thought they’d be much bigger (wider) but they weren’t they were skinny.
Oh and guess what else I saw? I saw my first..., excuse me I’m dropping my crayon, hold on. I saw my first ever American eagle! It was ginormous! It was absolutely huge! The hugest bird ever! Like we have emus and they’re big, they’re like ostriches but these birds (the eagle) they’re massive, they were big, they were huge and..., it’s really sad though because he’s in a little cage but.., oh, I think I called her the wrong name, (in the introduction Spencer said Multimes’ real name which was edited out).
Multimes, she told me that they’re in a cage because they can’t live in the wild anymore. And that’s why they’re there. So there was only one (eagle), it was really sad that there wasn’t a friend, because they only had one. And they only had one owl, which was also huge! It was massive! Ginormous owl! I’ve never seen an owl like that. It didn’t go, “Hoo Hoo”, it was just trying to go to sleep because it was day time. But they only had one of them, and they only had one of each bird so..., I don’t know if birds can chat with each other but it would have been really lonely for them, so that kind of made me feel a bit sad.
But we went into..., like after that. We went into a like, an Enchanted Forest and it was called a Butterfly Garden but there was only one moth. I only found one moth, and umm, I think it needed like a couple more weeks for all the butterflies to come. But do you know what they did? Just so you didn’t think it wasn’t a Butterfly Garden? They put big, like statues of butterflies there, so they could say, “Well it’s a Butterfly Garden because there are butterflies in it.” So that was still pretty cool.
Oh and we saw a donkey, it didn’t go “Hee-Haw,” but it was just there and a really pretty horse. Oh, do you know what? The donkey looked like it was going to have babies too and we kind of reckoned the donkey and the pretty horse got married to each other.
And we saw rabbits and that was pretty cool too. And by that stage it was like..., I was so tired, I kept yawning and I was thinking I need to go home and go to sleep (see note * below) or at least I need to go back on the inside because the night before, I got to stay out heaps (Fronting). And I got to spend the whole afternoon (Fronting), we went for a walk and saw baby Canadian Geese, like the day before we went to the farm. And it was really cool. And so I was really happy, and glad, and thankful that we got to go to the farm because it was really cool, and it was a really cool farm.
And I’m kind of really, kind of glad that we didn’t go to the real zoo because I think it would have been sad to see them (the animals) in the little cages, even though I know that they are there because, they are trying to like..., because there are not that many out in the wild and it’s really sad about that. Umm I wouldn’t want to be at a zoo and people come around looking at me, oh, it’s kind of like, a bit like jail. Umm but anyway, you know, what can you do? But this place was really cool because you could pat (pet) them, and they looked really happy and there was lots of people around and everybody was really kind and nice.
And I got an ice cream. Umm I got ahh..., I can’t remember which one I got. I think it was an ice cream sundae..., it wasn’t as good as the one we had, with the banana one, that was home made ice cream! That was a few weeks ago, that was the best ice cream that I ever had. It was like a banana one and that was really fun too.
So that was our day at the Farm, at the petting zoo farm and I’m allowed to put it there (on Substack), and I might put some photos up and the big ones here (System Adults), they’re going to write out what I say and we’ll have to see how that goes because Multimes brought me to the farm and we went to the farm together and I think I said her other name at the beginning so they are going to edit it out because that’s important, that’s for like..., they call it umm..., I don’t know what they call it..., they call it umm..., anonymous! Because you never know if the internet is a safe place or not.
Anyway, so, thank you for coming to Unpretending’s Substack.
And this has been Spencer and we hope you have a wonderful day.
And see you later.
Note *
When Spencer gets tired like that, we as a System have worked out they are needing to go back inside, Unpretending came and Fronted for the rest of the Farm trip.
With that said, for the next few paragraphs, Spencer mixes up several different Fronting memories which often happens when they are trying to remember details during Switching moments or moments when someone else in the System is Fronting.
The walk they are talking about, Spencer didn’t actually see any geese but had seen geese on a different walk. Also they didn’t get an ice cream at the farm, but there was discussion during the farm visit about getting an ice cream but Spencer was actually remembering an ice cream we’d had a few days beforehand.
We’ve added this note as it gives more insight into memories and how dissociation works for us in our System. We find it remarkable how our System works and enjoy learning more. We hope you enjoy learning a little bit more about us as well. - Unpretending Spontaneous.
